Curling News – Canada and China Caputure Gold at Pan Continental Curling Championships

Canada and China Caputure Gold at Pan Continental Curling Championships

October 26, 2025

Team Brad Jacobs from Canada and Team Wang Rui from China secured championship titles at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Virginia, Minnesota.

In Sunday’s finals, Jacobs delivered a decisive 7-3 victory over Team John Shuster from the United States, while Wang narrowly defeated Canada’s Team Rachel Homan 7-6 in a closely contested match.

After entering the ninth end tied at three points apiece, Jacobs executed a crucial open hit to score two points, then sealed the win by stealing two more in the final end.

The Calgary-based squad finished the tournament with a perfect 9-0 record. Looking ahead, Team Jacobs will compete at the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe event from November 4-9 before heading to the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Halifax, running November 22-30.

“We faced some formidable opponents here, particularly in our final matches,” Jacobs stated in a Curling Canada press release. “The crowd was fantastic, the ice conditions were excellent, and this tournament provided ideal preparation for the upcoming Slam and Trials.

“Representing Canada is always an honor, and it fuels our desire to earn that opportunity again.”

This marks Canada’s third men’s gold medal in the championship’s four-year existence. Team Brad Gushue claimed consecutive titles in 2022 and 2023, finishing fourth in 2024.

World Curling announced earlier this month that this would be the championship’s final edition.

Wang also completed the week with a flawless 9-0 performance.

After falling behind 3-2 to Homan, Wang seized control with two points in the sixth end and added a stolen single in the seventh. Though Homan scored one in the eighth, Wang extended her lead with two more in the ninth. Despite holding the hammer in the final end, Homan could only manage two points.

“We had our chances but didn’t make the right calls in unfamiliar situations,” Homan explained in a Curling Canada statement. “That made all the difference.”

The Ottawa-based team entered the competition fresh off their second straight Grand Slam of Curling victory at last Sunday’s CO-OP Tour Challenge in Nisku, Alberta.

“Losses teach you the most,” Homan reflected. “We know what needs improvement going forward. We arrived somewhat fatigued, and I’m incredibly proud of how my team persevered through the difficult stretches mid-week. We executed countless shots. They made everything, and they deserve credit. This caps a challenging two-week stretch for us, and we’re pleased with our performance.

“We’re looking forward to returning home to our families, recuperating, and preparing for the next Slam.”

Homan won this event last year, while Canada’s Team Kerri Einarson earned bronze in 2022 and placed fourth in 2023.

In Sunday’s bronze medal matches, Japan’s Team Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi edged China’s Team Xu Xiaoming 6-5, and South Korea’s Team Eun-ji Gim defeated Team Tabitha Peterson from the United States 11-8 in an extra end.
